The 'Nile' of Southern Africa

The Orange River is a stunningly beautiful highway through the great Kalahari Desert. Flanked by naked mountains and dense reedbanks, the river makes its way towards the distant Atlantic Ocean. Its course is varied by rapids, waterfalls and long lazy pools.

Multi-day rafting safaris

The RIVERMAN is the original pioneer of rafting trips to see the !Gariep or Ritchie Falls in the remote Oranje Gorge. Join us for a raft-camping experience second to none, five nights under the stars.

Autumn to Spring trips

We operate on the Orange only in the cooler months from late March to late September every year. Trips require a minimum of 8 adults and maximum 14. Children 8 and over, and teens are welcome, at discount prices. No experience is needed. You are led by pro guides.

Self-contained raft camps

We send a full Trip Briefing saying what to expect and what to bring. You may choose a fully catered or self-catered trip. Provide your own bedding, drinks and snacks; you can hire tents or bring your own. We meet early Sunday mornings at our base near Kakamas in the Northern Cape. Trips end Friday late afternoons.

Rowing, resting and rapids!

We don't paddle all day, every day. After the first few days, when we cover some distance, we pause for a day to enjoy the spectacular Oranje Gorge. A hike opens up stunning views of the !Gariep Falls.Later we run the most famous rapid, Big Bunny. And on our last night we celebrate our accomplishment.
